Reflecting on "reflectwo"

One day while I was studying, I came across Haruka Kojin's reflectwo and I was immediately drawn to the work. I loved the symmetry as it portrayed the reflection of a wooded shoreline on still water.

Haruka Kojin's "reflectwo"

To me, though, it seemed more like a shoreline of vibrantly colored flowers in full bloom. Perhaps one of the reasons it drew me in, was that it was both symmetrical and asymmetrical. The symmetry was beautifully portrayed on a horizontal axis, but yet the asymmetry was vertical and almost abstract. What an amazing and alluring combination. One of the things I find most interesting, is that when many people look at the photo of reflectwo, they describe it as a painting, when, in fact, it is not. It very much, has the feeling of a painting on the white canvas of a wall, but it's even more captivating to realize that it is actually groupings of fabric pedals suspended by threads from the ceiling. This makes the installation come to life, when the breeze of passersby, or even the shifting of air placement due to climate control units, makes it float, change and come back into perfect vision, like a truly alive reflection on water. Haruka's creativity is brilliant and how beautiful this must've been to see it in person.
